VIOLIN

Violin is a fretless western string instrument. The first violin was made in the 16th century in Italy. The violin becomes the most fashionable instrument in Italy. It has 4 strings and each has a name. 
However, the violin is currently used in western music as well as Indian music.

So The violin was introduced to Indian music by Muththuswami Dikshitar's brother Balaswami Dikshitar who had learned western before. He was the main person in introducing violin to India(Carnatic scene). There are many classical violinists in Indian classical music.
